How do I become a PhD fellow?

Thank you for your inquiry about the PhD programme of Delft University
of Technology (TU Delft).

For more information on the PhD programmes, please visit TU Delft> Research> PhD Research.

To become a PhD fellow at TU Delft you require, in principle, a MSc-degree of a well-established university and you should be proficient in English; i.e. you require a TOEFL test score of at least 213 or an IELTS test score of at least 6 for each of the four parts of the test. Knowledge of the Dutch language is not mandatory.

You can start a PhD programme at any time during the academic year. In The Netherlands most PhD-fellows are considered university employees (on a temporary basis), rather than students and therefore receive a salary.

TU Delft can assist you with your visa, residence permit, work permit and insurance. We can also provide you with accommodation for the first 12 months of your stay in Delft.

You can obtain a PhD position at TU Delft in various ways:
- Respond to one of the existing vacant PhD positions. You can find these on www.academictransfer.com
- Search within our faculties or research centres for the specific area in which you want to conduct your research and/or contact the professor under whose guidance you would like to do your research.

You can find an overview of our faculties and research centres via TU Delft> Study > Post graduate programmes

There are no standard forms to be filled in at this stage. If a contact leads to a mutual agreement an administrative procedure will follow.
